John Franklin Lock started painting in his mid-fifties, and his paintings began taking up space not long after that. Blessed as the Tallis-Lock abode is with incredibly sturdy walls, there is only so much room on them that can be committed to colourful canvas compositions. So it was that John’s passion for abstract art spilled into the rest of the house, stacking high in the spare room and littering the library.
While his family was pleased to see John engaged in a creative and fulfilling hobby, and is fortunate still to have such a collection to remember him by, the time has come to share those memories with the many other people whose lives he has touched.
Please take your time perusing these galleries of his work: anything with a red dot is either staying at home or has already been re-homed.
If there is a green dot on it, the painting is available and you are welcome to have it. Please email us using the contact form with your interest.
There is no charge for anything (we’re just grateful for the floor space back!) If you’d like to donate to a charity of your choice in John’s memory that would be great. The Magpie Project is a Newham-based organisation that does amazing work supporting mums and under-fives living in temporary accommodation and is one we support, details here: https://themagpieproject.org.
John Lock was many wonderful things to many wonderful people. We hope one of these paintings will help remind you of what he was to you.
With love
